Report shows nation’s state-run retirement systems nearly $1 trillion in debt

A recent report from the Pew Charitable Trusts finds some not-so-good news for public pensions. These state-run systems had a $968 billion shortfall in 2013 between the benefits promised to public servants and the funding needed to meet those promises.

As this graphic from the Washington Post shows, Colorado is only 61% funded, making our state the worst-funded in the West.
